Do you want to make a meaningful impact?

Lodestar is seeking passionate, empathetic, and inspiring individuals to join our team in supporting youth ages 5-21 who are navigating mental health challenges. Our mission is to create lasting, positive change by equipping the young people we serve with lifelong skills all while fostering their connection to the community.

We’re looking for team members who are strong critical thinkers, effective problem solvers, and excellent communicators who thrive in collaborative environments.

    Position Overview:

You will work 1:1 with children in their homes and communities, where they live, learn, play, and interact. You will support children in building essential life skills, developing individualized coping strategies (such as self-care routines and mindfulness techniques), and improving communication within their families and support systems.

This is a rewarding, flexible role perfect for individuals currently in school, working other jobs, or seeking meaningful part-time work.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred; exceptions may be made for applicants who have sufficient experience in a human-services–related field.
    • Preferred: At least 1 year of experience working with youth within the human-services–related field.
    • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle (for only Long Island), and current auto insurance.
    • Ability to pass all state-mandated background checks (including fingerprinting and the State Child Abuse Registry).

    Schedule:

Hours are based on the needs of the families and service providers.

The ideal candidate is available two or three days during the week from the hours of 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM, as most clients are school-aged and typically available after school hours. Flexible scheduling makes this position a great fit for individuals attending school or working other jobs. Weekend availability is a plus, but not required.

    Service Areas/Location:

We serve Long Island, Queens, and Brooklyn and are actively hiring in most areas within these regions. While we do our best to match workers with their preferred locations, placements depend on client availability and need.

    Compensation:
Starting pay ranges from $27.00 to $30.00 per service hour during a two-month probationary period. After successfully completing probation, there is an opportunity to earn $30.00 to $33.00 per service hour, depending on the services you provide.

For tasks that do not involve direct client work, such as training, supervision, and treatment plan development, you will be paid a non-billable rate of $24.00 per hour during the probationary period. Upon successful completion of probation, this rate increases to $28.50 per hour.

Applicants with a Master’s degree and at least one year of relevant experience in children’s mental health, addiction, foster care, child welfare, juvenile justice, or related human service fields are eligible for an advanced rate of $46.00 per hour after the probationary period.

Your pay is determined by the services you are eligible to provide. Eligibility, and therefore your pay rate, is based on your educational background and/or experience level, in accordance with state guidelines.

    Compensation follows a per-diem model.

    Successful completion of probation includes:

    • Completing paperwork accurately and on time
    • Timely communication with supervisors
    • Meeting consistently with clients on a weekly basis
    • Adhering to Lodestar's policies and procedures

    Why Join Lodestar?

    • Make a lasting impact on children and families
    • Supportive, mission-driven culture
    • Ongoing training and professional development
    • Flexible scheduling and meaningful work
    • Opportunities for growth within the organization

Work Location: You will meet with clients within their homes and communities. Completing paperwork (notes, treatment plans), training and supervision will take place remotely.
