On Wednesday, April 29, 2020, Farmingdale teachers and administrative staff gave the town of Farmingdale a parade to remember. Beginning at 9am and continuing for ten hours, they zigzagged their way through nearly every street in the district, waving and beeping their horns for all the students and families who came out of their homes to hold up signs and cheer them on. FARMINGDALE, NY (April 28, 2020) — Farmingdale School District is proud to announce the selection of Michael Gavalas for the position of principal of Weldon E. Howitt Middle School. The Farmingdale Board of Education is expected to officially appoint Mr. Gavalas at the next board meeting, scheduled for May 6, 2020. The FHS Science Department and Robotics Team are collaborating on a new project—3D printed face masks for healthcare workers. Last week, science teacher/VEX Robotics coach Ann Grady and VEX volunteer and team mentor Jerry Dubuke donated 20 plastic masks to Catholic Health Services that were created on a 3D printer. The FHS Robotics Team provided the revenue for the materials, using funds generated from the January tournament they hosted at FHS and through community sponsors. When schools shut down in

The Farmingdale High School varsity cheerleading competition team won the New York State Championship title this past weekend—capturing the Division I Large School title. The team is the first Nassau County cheerleading team to ever win a state championship title in cheerleading. This was the second year that Farmingdale competed at the varsity level and the third year that competitive cheerleading has been a part of the Farmingdale athletic program. On Tuesday, March 3, 2020, members of Farmingdale’s Legislative Action Committee (LAC) traveled to the New York State Capitol in Albany to present their 2019-2020 legislative proposals and to discuss the impact of pending and future legislation on public schools. On Thursday, February 6, 2020, Farmingdale High School hosted the All District Chorus Concert, bringing together 420 students from all six Farmingdale schools—elementary through high school. Each year, the All District Concert is a showcase that demonstrates the amazing level of growth that takes place from the elementary to the high school level. It alternates every three years with band, orchestra, and chorus. Music teachers Christina Cinnamo and Emilie D’Andrilli conducted the elementary chorus.
On Saturday, February 1, 2020, the Farmingdale High School History Club took part in the Eleventh Annual Long Island High School Ethics Bowl at Hofstra University. They participated with two teams— analyzing and discussing real-life, timely, ethical issues. Close to eighty teams participated, comprised of high school and middle school students from across southern New York State.
