S:US provides services for Veteran Families who are facing eviction or are homeless in need of permanent housing. (S:US) Services For The Underserved envisions everyone has a place to call home, is healthy, productive and can enjoy the social connections that create a life of purpose. Bringing Hope, Possibility, and Opportunity to New Yorkers for over 40 years. Founded in 1978, S:US works with 35,000 individuals and their families every year to create pathways to rich and productive lives by offering housing, employment, skills-building, treatment, and rehabilitation Services. Services for the UnderServed is looking for our (SSVF) Supportive Services for Veteran Families program to become a more visible resource to Veteran families in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties who may be facing housing instability.
The goal of SSVF is to assist Veterans in achieving self-sufficiency, long term housing stability and an improved quality of life. SSVF is able to provide an array of support services to assist Veterans by addressing the root causes of homelessness. Once connected to the program, SSVF can provide eligible families with case management, advocacy, and assistance in connecting to benefits and housing assistance. SSVF can also connect participants to health care, daily living services, personal financial planning, transportation, employment search assistance and child care. Time-limited payments to third party vendors (i.e., landlords, utility companies, moving companies, licensed child care providers) can be made if these payments help a household remain in or acquire permanent housing. SSVF can also assist families who may be facing homelessness, by offering financial assistance on a case by case basis.
We would like to establish ourselves as a continued resource to Veterans and their families facing challenges with their housing. We are hoping to be able to expedite and streamline the process of getting eligible Veterans families into the program, and prevent further housing crisis and possible eviction.
